Godzone course breaks Kim

Team Mountain Designs were forced to withdraw the team from the Godzone Adventure race after completing LEG 5 in 7th position. Kim was regretting telling the boys the level of pain and suffering  as we were approaching the TA. The boys were gearing up for the next trek and preparing themselves mentally for the next possible 30hrs of trekking while I was trying fight the pain and force myself to keep going.....but when we got into the TA I knew that going on into such remoteness in the condition I was in was not a safe and wise option for both me and the team. So, after much discussion of options, we withdrew from the race......however Robbie, Gary and Sloppy are heading out for the final exciting TREK tomorrow morning and take out the camera and get some great pictures as they climb up and skirt the Earnslaw Glacier! 

GODZONE - Team MD's prepares for the race!

Team Mountain Designs spends time preparing for the GODZONE Adventure Race, experiencing some of Queenstown's extreme sports. This was a part of the   photoshoot for Nothin' ButShorts International "Wild Racing" Series......

We started with a visit to AJ Hacket's World's Highest Swing and but before we could count down 5,4,3,2,1, Robbie was jumping off the Bungee, what a thrill......

We got on our bikes and rode a few hills before heading out to the Jet boat at the Shotover River and finished the day with a ride up the famous Gondola, where we watched Para gliders launching on a picture perfect day and Downhill mountain bikes taking to the trails.......what a day!

After a long day of packing our food and gear we are as ready as we can be for 6 days of NZ adventure! Tomorrow when we jump onto a bus, we know we will start the following day (Monday) with a paddle, bike, trek (the first 3 of 10 legs) and finish with a long paddle.......and we will get cold, there will be snow, but it will be one unbelievable  experience! GODZONE - Here we come!

Team Mountain Designs decided to do a bit of final Navigation preparation for GODZONE, by having a crack at the "Fooling  Around" Rogaine at Bunyaville on the 1st April....Gary, Sloshy and Robbie cleared the course with 15 secs to spare to take out the event, whilst Kim teamed up with a few "Vinatage Cowgirls" to take out the "Veteran and Open Women's Category.....

Godzone - here we come!

Since then we have been madly packing and sorting our gear for the event, and charging up our Ay Up Lights - thanks to Andy Fellows for the team extra's. Our sponsors Mountain Designs, Salomon, Hammer Nutrition and Tri Adventure, have certainly geared us up for the event......but the challenge is trying to pack it all into two boxes to fly across the Tasman without too much excess baggage!

So I have a special list - this is one I have devised especially for GODZONE! It is better than a typed one, because I can add to it at any time, and if the printer decides not to work......it doesn't mater, because I have the list! I colour code it like I colour code the legs of the event, why....I have no idea but it seems to work for me! It also helps us to remind each other of things we may almost forget......like a PASSPORT!!!! Yes it almost slipped my mind....but lucky for the list.....Hey Robbie!
